Episode 7 Of Adventure Is Up

I got Episode 7 of Adventure for you all to read. Yes I took out the summaries as of this episode as likely most of you who see this have seen the whole series anyways.

Episode 007

Episode Stats:

Japanese Episode 007: A Roar! Ikkakumon
American Episode 107: Ikkakumon's Harpoon Torpedo
Japanese Air Date: April 10th 1999
American Air Date: September 21st 1999
Important Characters: Unimon, Ikkakumon
Important Places: Infinity Mountain

Thoughts
Well the mini-arc of the kid's Digimon evolving to their Adult levels ends here. OK Patamon hasn't evolved yet and won't for another 6 episodes, but still. This episode is decent. Junko Takeuchi really shines here as Gomamon/Ikkakumon.

The dub was once again very good. The script was about 90% accurate. Only one cringe worthy line & a cut, but this is one of the better dubbed episodes.

Side Note
The dub actually translates Onsen as Hot Spring.

Removed Footage-3 Seconds
The up close shot of Jou using his knife is cut for obvious reasons.

Side Note
In the dub Unimon was given a voice. In the Japanese version he just neighs like a horse.

Paint Edit
Jou's message gets changed for the dub.

The Japanese note says I'll be back soon. Stay here and wait for me. Jou, so it's more or less the same thing being said in both versions.

Dialogue Edit
Unimon's attack name changes from Holy Shot to Aerial Attack.

What Greymon says when Tai asks him if he's alright gets this little gem.

American Greymon: "I'm stylin' dude."

He says nothing in the original.

Ikkakumon's attack name changes from Harpoon Vulcan to Harpoon Torpedo.

Side Note
I know I've talked smack about R. Martin Klein as Bukamon & Gomamon, but he's actually very good as Ikkakumon.

Finally! An Update

I've been rather busy lately, but I got Adventure Episode 6 up tonight for you all.

Episode 006

Episode Stats:

Japanese Episode 006: Palmon's Angry Evolution!
American Episode 106: Togemon In Toy Town
Japanese Air Date: April 11th 1999
American Air Date: September 20th 1999
Important Characters: Numemon, Monzaemon
Important Places: Toy Town

While going through the sewer the Chosen Children are attacked by Numemon. They manage to escape into the sunlight only to be attacked by them again. Mimi & Palmon run into Monzaemon who is supposed to be a good Digimon and is ttacked by him. They land in Toy Town and see the other kids acting strange. While exploring Mimi & Palmon find the other Digimon trapped in a chest, and they explained what happened to the kids. Suddenly Mimi & Palmon are attacked by Monzaemon. The Numemon try to help Mimi out, but it's no use and Palmon's evolution into Togemon is triggered and she gets the Black Gear out of Monzaemon. Monzaemon apologizes for what he has done.

Thoughts
This episode is a lot of fun. It's one of my favorites in the first series, and was glad that this was one of 3 episodes I saw that made me a fan in the first place. I really liked that the kids got to face 2 Perfect level Digimon in a row.

The dub was very good. Yes there may have been 8 seconds cut, but for the most part it was very accurate to the original.

Side Note
I don't normally compare recaps due to them being different, but in the dub Izzy pronounces Andromon's name correctly (well in the dub) in the beginning of it, but by the end he pronounces it like the Japanese version does. It's kind of cool.

Removed Footage-5 Seconds
So we start off with a cut. The first scene with the squeaky doll is excised in the dub likely for time.

Dialogue Edit
What the kids and Digimon sing is different in both versions.

Song 1 (Kids):

" I remember my hometown in distant lands."

In the dub Mimi talks instead of the kids singing.

Song 2 (Digimon):

"Sweet it's not, sour it is, success is not for me me me!"

"Digimon eat and Digimon fight, Digimon Digivolve and fight all night."

The dub's song is very corny.

Song 3 (Mimi):

"Erroneous Person~"

American Mimi: "Oh give me a home where the buffalo roams."
Joe: "Avoiding your drone."

Song 4 (Koushirou):

"Even now, nothing will..."

Izzy talks instead, and the voice does not match the lip flaps well.

Song 5 (Kids):

"Even now, nothing will..."

"Digimon fight and Digimon fly, Digimon Digivolve and fight all..."

Numemon's attack name changes from Poop to Nume Sludge & Party Time. Nume Sludge is said by Mimi in the Analyzer screen while the Numemon say Party time. I think it's obvious why this change was made.

Side Note
In the dub Numemon's voice is an impersonation of Ed Wynn who is most famous for voicing the Mad Hatter in Disney's Alice In Wonderland.

Dialogue Edit
Monzaemon's attack name changes from Lovely Attack to Hearts Attack.

Removed Footage-3 Seconds
After the flashback of how Taichi & Agumon were attacked by Monzaemon there is a 3 second cut of Agumon & Piyomon talking in the dub.

Side Note
I like Mari Devon as Togemon. She is another one of my favorite Voice Actors in the dub. She gets some big roles later on like a certain fox Digimon.

Dialogue Edit
Togemon's Prickly Bang Bang is changed to Digimon Needle Spray in this episode. In future episodes it's shortened to Needle Spray.

Episode 5 Added

Adventure Episode 5 has been added.

Episode 005

Episode Stats:

Japanese Episode 005: Electric Shock! Kabuterimon
American Episode 105: Kabuterimon's Electro Shocker
Japanese Air Date: April 4th 1999
American Air Date: September 11th 1999
Important Characters: Andromon, Kabuterimon
Important Places: Factorial Town

The kids come across Factorial Town, and they wonder what's in it. The kids split up and Koushirou finds this giant battery in which he can use his computer and learns some cool stuff. Taichi, Sora & Jou rescue Andromon who while they are rescuing him get a Black Gear inside of him, so he attacks them. Once the kids are all reunited Agumon & Gabumon evolve to try to stop him, but that doesn't work, so with the help of Koushirou's laptop Tentomon evolves into Kabuterimon and defeats Andromon by removing the Black Gear. Andromon tells the kids how to get out of Factorial Town. The exit leads to a sewer.

Thoughts
This is another very enjoyable episode. We learn a bit about Koushirou's past & we get a good fight sequence in as well. I've always liked Andromon's character as well.

The dub was great. No cringe worthy dialogue at all, but there was a paint edit and weird scene transitions though, but so far this is the best dubbed episode yet.

Paint Edit
The Japanese characters on Koushirou's laptop have been erased in the dub.

The Japanese text means On (Top) & Running (Bottom)

Video Edit
The screen wipes after Tai's line and the kids standing in front of the power supply room in the dub. This happens quite often in this episode.

Side Note
This is the first episode in which Izzy says Prodigious. He will say this for the rest of his run on the show.

Why is Tentomon giving Andromon's information in the dub? He's not even in that scene.

In the Japanese version when Koushirou & Tentomon are in the giant battery their voices have an echo effect to them. They do not in the dub.

Dialogue Edit
Andromon's attack name changes from Spiral Sword to Lightning Blade. While his Gatling Missiles don't have a name in the dub. (Yeah we jumped from the first Spiral Sword to the Gatling Missiles scene with no cringe-worthy dialogue or censoring at all.)

Side Note
Jeff Nimoy's voice as Kabuterimon is very different here than what it will be later. I like his later work better.

Dialogue Edit
Kabuterimon's Mega Blaster is changed to Electro Shocker.

Removed Footage-1 second
The fade between Andromon's close up and the scene where he's talking to the kids is cut due to how the last commercial break falls in the dub.
