Twice a year in Japan (except for 1999) a new Digimon movie would be released in Japan. These movies would have more elaborate storylines than the series does and the animation would be better.

In the US Saban & Fox wanted to bring Digimon to theaters, but as with most Toei movies they are not feature length, so they chose to combine the 3 Digimon movies available at the time and market it as 1. The 2nd Digimon Adventure 02 movie, the 2 Digimon Tamers movies & the Digimon Frontier movie would be straight to TV airings 2 years after the dub of Digimon Frontier ended.
